Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack: Price & Requirements
How to upgrade Pikmin 4 to the Switch 2 Edition: upgrade pack price, what you need, release date, and what Nintendo has confirmed vs not yet announced.
What is the Pikmin 4 Switch 2 upgrade pack?
Nintendo’s upgrade pack is paid add-on content for people who already own Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch. It is not a standalone game. The US eShop listing states that the full Pikmin 4 game is required and sold separately, and points to Nintendo’s Switch 2 upgrade-pack support article for details.
The pack unlocks the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition layer: Dandori Academy, Oatchi voice commands through the Switch 2 microphone, improved visuals on Switch 2, and GameShare / GameChat support for Dandori Battles. Nintendo announced the product during the September 2026 Nintendo Direct and opens pre-orders on Nintendo eShop ahead of launch.
If you do not own Pikmin 4 yet, Nintendo sells Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, which bundles the original Switch game plus the upgrade content in one purchase. For a buy-or-wait take, see our Switch 2 Edition worth-it guide.

What do you need before you buy?
As of 2026-11-03, Nintendo has confirmed the following requirements:
| Requirement | Status (Nintendo sources) |
|---|---|
| Own Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch (digital or physical) | Required for the upgrade pack |
| Nintendo Switch 2 console | Upgrade features run on Switch 2 only |
| Nintendo Account + eShop access (or retail download code) | Purchase channel per Nintendo Support |
| Free storage for the upgrade download | US store estimates 1.2 GB for the pack (pre-release estimate) |
Nintendo has not published a step-by-step Pikmin 4 save-import FAQ tied to the upgrade pack. General Switch-to-Switch 2 system transfer can move digital purchases and save data (Nintendo AU transfer guide), and Pikmin 4 supports Save Data Cloud with Nintendo Switch Online on the full edition listing—but that is not the same as a confirmed “press one button to merge every scenario” statement for this upgrade. Treat in-progress save behavior as not yet announced until Nintendo posts Pikmin-specific guidance at launch.
How much does the upgrade cost, and when is it out?
Release date: November 12, 2026 worldwide on Nintendo’s store pages and Gematsu’s release listing.
Upgrade pack price (confirmed on Nintendo US eShop, accessed 2026-11-03): $9.99 digital.
Full Switch 2 Edition bundle: Nintendo’s US product page did not display a single MSRP in our check; third-party trackers list $69.99 US / £58.99 UK for the complete edition—verify on your local eShop before budgeting.
Download sizes (US store estimates, pre-release): upgrade pack 1.2 GB; full Switch 2 Edition install 12.8 GB on Switch 2 versus 11.3 GB for the Switch version of the base game.

How do you upgrade if you already own Pikmin 4?
Nintendo Support (answer 68413) describes the general flow for Switch 2 upgrade packs:
- Confirm you own the original Nintendo Switch version (cart or download tied to your account).
- On Nintendo Switch 2, open Nintendo eShop (or redeem a retailer download code) and buy Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy Upgrade Pack.
- Install the pack; launch Pikmin 4 on Switch 2 to access enhanced visuals, Dandori Academy, voice commands, and GameShare-enabled Dandori Battles.
After upgrading, Nintendo states the original Switch game remains playable on Nintendo Switch, but Switch 2 Edition features are Switch 2-only. Playing on an original Switch should still mean the pre-upgrade experience—plan on Switch 2 hardware for the new modes.
Retailers may sell digital download codes for the upgrade; redeem them on eShop the same way as other Nintendo download cards.
Physical vs digital base game: any difference?
Nintendo Support explicitly includes physical and digital base-game owners in the upgrade path. Nintendo has not detailed cartridge-in-slot requirements at every boot in the Pikmin 4 product text we reviewed—only that the base game is required. If you buy the physical Switch 2 Edition bundle, Nintendo’s marketing describes it as including the Switch game plus upgrade content; inserting that card on an original Switch is widely reported to load the standard Switch build without Switch 2 extras, but treat fine print on your box as the final word when it ships.
Digital owners link the upgrade to the same Nintendo Account entitlement as their existing Pikmin 4 download.
What does the Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition upgrade add?
These items come from Nintendo’s US eShop copy and the September 2026 Nintendo Direct news post:
- Dandori Academy — timed treasure-collection exams; practice anytime; ranked attempts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; medals and online leaderboards; 72 stages rolled out over time; three difficulty tiers (exam cadence details).
- Nine Oatchi voice commands via the Switch 2 built-in microphone (exact phrase list partially announced—see voice commands guide).
- Enhanced visuals on Switch 2 in TV and handheld modes; European product copy also cites up to 4K in TV mode on supported displays (US store wording stays at “high-resolution visuals” without the 4K bullet).
- Dandori Battles with GameShare (local or online through GameChat); guest players can join without owning the game, with session limits documented on the store page.

Free demo and save data (separate from the upgrade pack)
Nintendo’s Pikmin Day Direct (October 31, 2026) announced a free demo from November 2, 2026 with Sun-Speckled Terrace plus two Dandori Academy stages on Switch 2. The presentation states demo progress carries over to the full game. That applies to the demo-to-retail path—not a substitute for published rules about migrating a long-running Switch 1 save after buying the upgrade.
Voice commands are not in the demo according to community wiki notes sourced from Nintendo’s demo scope; we will re-check after launch.
